Red State review

After you are done checking out Khal Jurga and the Khal Tribe head on over to Horror101 and check out Cash Wampum’s review of Kevin Smith’s latest movie Red State. If you like movies that leave you with a “what the heck just happened” feeling this is the movie for you. If you are a fan of Kevin Smith’s previous movies, throw away what you know as this is a much different kind of movie from him. KUDOS Kevin, you are indeed about more than just d*ck and fart jokes.

Retrospect Gallery Update: Snively

by drocha on October 3, 2011 at 12:01 AM

Snively was the first centipede designed for The Underground. Admittedly, he is a testament to the juvenile means by which many characters were created for the book. I would often try to dedicate characters to friends and family, and Snively was based on my friend Adam Snively (Sorry Adam, if I’m spelling your name wrong!). The original concept was sketched by another friend of mine, David O’Connor. Later this would be translated for use in an early ‘Coloured Edition’ of the book which had very little direct connection to the main storyline, but was sent to Marvel Comics, DC, and Image. The character was blue (instead of the more appropriate brown), and he could fire harpoons out of his forearms! A little far-fetched? Maybe. But hey, what do you expect from an eighteen year-old who draws talking bugs?

Insect-O-Fact # 16 – Can I buy you a drink?

by drocha on September 29, 2011 at 12:01 AM
Posted In: Insect-O-Facts

Insects consume a wide variety of high energy liquids. For ants the most common is a substance known as Honeydew. Honeydew is a high sugar excretion extracted from mature aphids and scale insects after feeding on plant sap. Some other insects such as certain butterfly and moth caterpillars and beetles have been known to secrete this important source of food. Honey bees have also been known to make honey from honeydew instead of nectar. This Honeydew honey is not as sweet as that made from nectar and not as palatable to humans but is sought after for it’s medicinal purposes.

Honeydew is very important to most ant colonies and is even, in its crystallized form, treated like currency in many colonies throughout the Underground. A system originally developed and implemented by Queen Azulon. Some ants even go so far as to keep herds of Aphids that they “milk” by stroking them with their antennae. Honeypot ants go one step further and force feed special ants called repletes until they swell to the size of a grape. This replete elixir is widely sought after in the underground for it’s ability to boost the strength, speed and reflexes of any insect who consumes it.

Wargear Gallery – Page 2 – Lor’s Weapons

by drocha on September 26, 2011 at 12:01 AM
Posted In: Blog

Lor’s weapons combine Ant mechanical knowledge with the chemical wizardry of the Terseon Dynasty.

Lor’s pistols are of primarily wooden construction with a chemical reaction chamber inside the pistol at the base of the barrel. When the trigger is pulled a tiny amount of two different fluids are mixed in the reaction chamber causing a highly pressurized gas to fire a tiny projectile at high velocities at the enemy. Once discharged, a spring automatically chambers the next round. Holding the trigger down will rapid fire these projectiles until either the chemical clip or projectile clip are empty. Both clips are connected together in one quick load package. Lor always carries a few of these clips with her at all times.

Lor’s Sniper rifle is also uses the same technology as her pistols. The differences are that the barrel is much longer for greater range and accuracy and it is equipped with a dew drop scope for sniping enemies before they can even see her. The rifle also has a higher payload than her pistols and uses poison tipped rounds for greater damage.

Lor’s Formus Handcanon is wholly of Ant design and uses a pump action mechanism to reload and fire the weapon. A pressurized bag releases a scolding mist of formic acid at her enemies. The mist is capable of incapacitating an arc of enemies within a close proximity to the firer. Lor has, at times, tinkered with the acid bag to include tiny pellets which add another level of pain to the unfortunate victim of this ingenius weapon.
